Supreme Court Justice Sanjay Kumar has recused himself from hearing the petition challenging the Delhi High Court’s order to cancel the bail of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia in the excise policy case. The case is now scheduled to be listed before an appropriate bench on July 15.
Justice Kumar’s decision to withdraw from the case was announced on Monday, with no specific reason provided for his recusal. Sisodia’s legal team had approached the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court revoked his bail, citing serious allegations in the excise policy case that warrant further investigation.
The Delhi High Court had earlier canceled Sisodia’s bail, stating that the allegations against him involved significant financial irregularities and potential corruption. The case, which has garnered considerable media attention, revolves around purported irregularities in the formulation and implementation of Delhi’s excise policy.
Sisodia, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing, claims the case is politically motivated. His party, the AAP, has stood firmly behind him, calling the charges baseless and an attempt to tarnish their leader’s reputation.
With Justice Kumar’s recusal, all eyes are now on the Supreme Court’s next hearing on July 15, where another bench will take up the matter and decide the future course of action in this high-profile case.
