Junior doctors, protesting for justice in a rape and murder case, have called off their complete work stoppage in government medical colleges and hospitals. However, they warned the West Bengal government that they would begin a hunger strike if their demands were not met within 24 hours. Dr. Debashish Haldar from Kolkata Medical College and Hospital stated that the sit-in would continue, emphasizing the need for a central inquiry committee to ensure disciplinary action against those threatening doctors.

Earlier, the protesting junior doctors accused the police of using force against their colleagues. Two doctors were reportedly beaten by the police while waiting at Dharmatala, leading to a peaceful dharna. The doctors demanded an apology from the police, stating they were permitted to hold a press conference there and were protesting peacefully. Traffic in the city center was affected due to the demonstration. The junior doctors declared they would continue their protest until their demands were met and an apology was issued by the police.
