Junior doctors in West Bengal organized a torch rally, joined by the general public, seeking justice in the RG rape and murder case. The rally, led by members of the West Bengal Junior Doctors Forum and various civil society groups, began at the West Bengal Medical Council office in Sector 3, Salt Lake, and moved towards the CBI office in CGO Complex, Sector 1.
During the rally, participants raised slogans of “We want justice” and urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to expedite the case’s hearing. Junior doctors expressed frustration, noting it has been three months since the incident occurred, yet the investigation remains incomplete. “The CBI should finish their inquiry soon,” said one of the doctors present.
In addition to the rally, junior doctors across West Bengal staged a ‘work stoppage’ in government hospitals, demanding improved security measures to ensure safety for medical staff, especially female colleagues. Their demonstration reflects the growing concern over the safety of healthcare professionals and the urgency to bring justice in the RG case. The doctors’ protests underscore a call for prompt action to address both justice and security for hospital staff in the state.
