A Delhi court on Wednesday directed the transfer of the Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case involving Engineer Rashid to the Special MP/MLA court. Rashid, a former legislator and now a Member of Parliament (MP), is one of the accused in the 2017 terror funding case.
Additional Sessions Judge Chandrajit Singh referred the case to the district judge, noting that the Special MP/MLA court handles cases against sitting MPs. The district judge is expected to hear the matter on November 25.
Engineer Rashid, who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2019, is currently lodged in Tihar Jail. He faces charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for his alleged role in terror funding activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Judge Chandrajit Singh was also scheduled to rule on Rashid’s regular bail application, but the case transfer means the decision will now rest with the MP/MLA court.
The NIA has accused Rashid and others of financial links to terror groups and separatist activities in the region. Rashid denies the charges and claims he is being targeted for political reasons. The case has been closely watched due to its implications for governance and national security.
