Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured that India will take back verified Indian illegal immigrants in the US and take strict action against human traffickers. Speaking at a press conference after bilateral talks with US President Donald Trump on Thursday, PM Modi said India and the US share the same views on this issue.
“Any verified Indian who is staying in the US illegally, we are fully prepared to take them back to India,” he said. His statement comes after the US deported around 100 Indian illegal immigrants earlier this month on a military aircraft. Reports suggest India has agreed to take back approximately 18,000 illegal immigrants.
PM Modi emphasized that illegal immigration is not just an Indian issue but a global problem. He stressed that people who stay illegally in other countries do not have legal rights there. However, he pointed out that the problem is not just legal but also a human rights concern.
“Many people migrate with high hopes, but most illegal immigrants fall into the trap of human trafficking. We must take strong action to dismantle these networks and protect innocent lives,” he said.
PM Modi assured that India and the US are working together to combat human trafficking. Both countries aim to strengthen their cooperation to ensure that such crimes are stopped and vulnerable people are protected.
