India has signed a significant agreement with the United States to purchase 31 long-lasting Predator drones from US defense company General Logistics. The deal, finalized through the Foreign Military Sales channel, is valued at approximately $4 billion. This acquisition aims to strengthen India’s military capabilities, particularly along its disputed borders with China.

The agreement was signed in New Delhi in the presence of top Indian defense and strategic officials, signaling a major boost in military cooperation between India and the US. This drone deal comes just weeks before the upcoming US presidential election, highlighting the importance of defense relations between the two countries.

The drones being purchased are MQ-9B ‘Hunter Killer’ models, known for their advanced surveillance and combat capabilities. Last week, the Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the purchase of these drones.

Officials believe this acquisition will enhance India’s defense preparedness and support its efforts in maintaining security along challenging borders. The agreement represents another step forward in the growing defense partnership between India and the United States.
