In a thrilling turn of events on the third day of the second cricket Test match between India and England, India concluded their second innings at 255 runs, establishing a daunting target of 399 runs for the visiting team. Shubman Gill showcased his prowess with a splendid century (104), steering India towards a commanding position.
Contributions from Akshar Patel (45), Ravichandran Ashwin, and Shreyas Iyer (29 each) bolstered India’s innings. Notably, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had scored a double century in the first innings, added 17 runs. Captain Rohit Sharma contributed 13 runs to the team’s total of 396 runs in the first innings.
England faced a challenging task as they chased the 399-run target. At the end of the day’s play, England reached 67 runs but lost the wicket of Ben Duckett (28), dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin. Zach Crowley (29) and Rihan Ahmed (9) remained unbeaten, offering hope for the English side.
Earlier in the match, England struggled in their first innings, managing only 253 runs. Tom Hartley led the English bowling attack with four wickets, while Rihan Ahmed took three, James Anderson claimed two, and Shoaib Bashir secured one.
With this Test match being the second in a five-match series, England currently holds a 1-0 lead after winning the first Test in Hyderabad.
