The next round of discussions on the review of the India-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (AITIGA) will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, in February 2025. This update was shared in an official statement today.

The fourth round of talks concluded this month, with the Indian Commerce Ministry highlighting the importance of reviewing the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA). Officials believe the review will play a key role in boosting sustainable trade with the ASEAN region, which remains a critical trading partner for India.

ASEAN, as a group, accounts for about 11 percent of India’s global trade. Strengthening trade relations through the updated agreement is expected to enhance economic collaboration and create new opportunities for businesses in the region.

The Commerce Ministry expressed optimism about the ongoing negotiations and reiterated its commitment to fostering balanced and mutually beneficial trade agreements. The upcoming talks in February 2025 will build on the progress made during the previous discussions and aim to finalize key terms that address the evolving economic landscape.

India and ASEAN continue to focus on deepening their economic ties, underscoring the significance of trade in regional growth and cooperation.
