India and China held talks on resuming the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage in Tibet and sharing data on rivers along their border. Key rivers like the Tsangpo (Brahmaputra), Indus, and Sutlej originate in Tibet and flow into India. Kailash Mansarovar, located north of Uttarakhand in Tibet, is a sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus. The pilgrimage has been on hold since 2019.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed these topics during a meeting on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the importance of building a sustainable relationship and resolving differences.
This meeting comes after the recent withdrawal of Indian and Chinese troops from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Demchok and Depsang, eastern Ladakh. The troop withdrawal has helped maintain peace and stability in border areas.
The ministers expressed hope for strengthening bilateral relations and addressing unresolved issues. This dialogue marks a significant step toward improving India-China ties after recent border tensions.
