Iltija Mufti, the daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, recently criticized ‘Hindutva,’ calling it a disease that is defaming Hinduism and leading to the exploitation of minorities, particularly Muslims. She shared a video on social media showing a Muslim man being beaten, alleging that it was a consequence of the BJP’s use of Hindutva to strengthen its vote bank.
In her post on ‘X’, Iltija stated, “Lord Ram must be watching with his head bowed in shame and helplessness as minor Muslim boys are beaten with slippers just because they refuse to chant his (Ram) name.” She added that Hindutva has tarnished the name of God and is a disease that has afflicted millions of Indians.
Iltija later defended her statement, accusing the BJP of fostering such violence and communal tensions in the country. Her comments have sparked significant debate, with supporters arguing that Hindutva is being misused to create division, while others criticize her for attacking the values of Hinduism and invoking religious sentiments for political purposes. The controversy highlights the growing polarization in India over issues of identity and religion.
