The Haryana government has ordered the suspension of mobile internet and SMS services in Nuh district for 24 hours ahead of the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra. Last year, the yatra was marred by violence. According to orders from Haryana’s Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, internet services in the district will be suspended from Sunday 6 PM to Monday 6 PM. The orders state, “There is apprehension of tension, disturbance, protests, damage to public and private property, and disruption of public peace in Nuh district.”
The suspension aims to prevent the spread of misinformation and rumors through social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter. During this period, Nuh police have announced strict security arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the yatra.
Notably, on July 31 last year, two home guards died and 15 others, including police personnel, were injured when a mob tried to stop the Vishva Hindu Parishad procession in Nuh. The mob pelted stones and set cars on fire. That same night, a mob attacked a mosque in Gurugram and killed its deputy imam. The clashes resulted in five deaths and many injuries
