All-rounder Hardik Pandya will captain the Indian team in the upcoming three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka, which starts on July 27. However, due to personal reasons, Pandya will not participate in the three-match ODI series scheduled for August. A source from the BCCI stated, “Hardik Pandya was the vice-captain of the Indian T20 team during Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Hardik is fully fit and available for the three-match T20 series, so he will be the captain.”
The T20 series will take place from July 27 to 30 in Pallekele, while the ODI series will be played in Colombo from August 2 to 7. The squad for both series will be announced in the coming days. The vice-captain for the T20 series has not yet been decided, with Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav being considered for the role. Additionally, Gill or KL Rahul are potential candidates for the ODI captaincy.
Regular T20 captain Rohit Sharma has retired from T20 cricket following India’s World Cup victory. An official confirmed that Pandya requested a break from the ODI series due to personal reasons and that Sharma has been informed of this decision.
