The flood situation in Bihar has worsened, with embankments of rivers Kosi and Bagmati breached in several areas. In Darbhanga, the embankment of the Kosi river broke near Kiratpur block, affecting more than a dozen villages in Kiratpur and Ghanshyampur blocks. Similarly, the Bagmati river’s embankment broke near Rupoli village in Rani Saidpur block of Sitamari district.
Another breach occurred in Bagmati near Tariyani Chapra village in Shivhar district, leading to flooding in surrounding villages, including Tariyani Chapra. Earlier, Bagmati river had also breached in Madhkaul village of Sitamari. In West Champaran, the Gandak river’s embankment was damaged, allowing floodwaters to enter the Valmiki Tiger Reserve.
Bihar Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary assured the public that there was no need to panic and that the situation was under control. In response to the worsening flood conditions in North Bihar, six additional teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been called in from Varanasi and Ranchi. The State Disaster Management Department reported that more than 16 lakh people have been affected by floods across several districts of Bihar, with relief efforts ongoing.
