In response to the ongoing farmers’ agitation, the Union Home Ministry has extended the period of internet service closure in certain areas of Punjab. Initially ordered till February 17 in districts bordering Haryana, the ban has now been prolonged following central government directives.
Internet services will remain suspended in key areas of seven districts, including Shambhu in Patiala, Sangat in Bathinda, and Moonak in Sri Muktsar Sahib, until February 24. The decision, aimed at maintaining law and order, has led to significant disruptions in the affected regions.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs underscores the necessity of this measure, citing the persisting farmers’ protests. The impacted areas encompass strategic locations like Julka, Passian, Patar, Ghanoor, Devigarh, and Laldu, creating an information blackout for residents.
This extension reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges posed by the ongoing protests while acknowledging the impact on routine life in the affected districts. As discussions between farmers and the government continue, the situation remains tense, and the internet shutdown adds another layer of complexity to the evolving narrative.
