A crucial meeting was held today in Chandigarh between farmer representatives and the central government to discuss the legal guarantee of MSP and other farmer demands. The discussion took place at a peaceful pace, but no final decision was reached due to the absence of the agriculture minister. The next meeting is scheduled for February 22, likely in Chandigarh.
The government delegation, led by senior officials, held a nearly three-hour discussion with farmer leaders. Farmers have been protesting at borders for almost a year, and after a long gap, the government has resumed talks. Both sides showed a positive approach during the meeting, which was seen as a good sign for future discussions.
The government had invited farmer representatives for talks on January 18, and farmer leaders traveled long distances to attend the meeting. During the discussion, key issues were raised, including a legal guarantee for MSP, loan waivers, implementation of recommendations for better pricing, a pension scheme for farmers and laborers, and government jobs for the families of those who lost their lives during protests.
The meeting also included discussions on border protests, with leaders from different groups participating in the talks. Farmers emphasized that they would continue their struggle until their demands were met. The government, on the other hand, highlighted various steps taken for farmers but did not make any commitments regarding their demands.
With discussions set to continue, both farmers and the government are hoping for a resolution that addresses key concerns and brings stability to the agricultural sector. The outcome of the next meeting will be crucial in determining the future course of action.
