Narinder Yadav, also known as Narinder John Cam, who has been arrested for allegedly posing as a cardiologist and being involved in the deaths of seven patients at a missionary hospital in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, reportedly applied for jobs multiple times with exaggerated claims about his qualifications and experience.

Pankaj Soni, director of an Indore-based employment consultancy firm, revealed that Cam had sent his resume via email on three occasions—2020, 2023, and 2024—seeking job placements as a cardiologist. The firm specializes in recruitment services for hospitals across India, including doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff.

Soni said, “In 2020, we posted an online advertisement for a cardiologist required at a private hospital. Narinder Cam responded to that ad with a resume that immediately raised suspicions.” According to Soni, Cam claimed to hold high-level medical degrees and listed affiliations with reputed institutions in India, the UK, USA, Germany, Spain, and France.

“It seemed unusual that a cardiologist with such extensive international experience would be looking for a job in smaller cities in India,” Soni added. The initial doubts grew stronger when Cam submitted a second and then a third resume in 2023 and 2024, each time with increasingly extravagant claims.

His most recent resume spanned nine pages, in which he described himself as a senior cardiologist residing in Birmingham, UK. He stated he had been part of over 18,000 coronary angiographies and more than 14,000 coronary angioplasties. These figures, according to the consultancy, were unrealistic and lacked verification.

The arrest came earlier this week in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, after investigations into the deaths of seven patients during procedures conducted at Damoh Missionary Hospital (DMH). The hospital’s cath lab, where cardiac procedures were allegedly carried out by Cam, has since been sealed as part of the inquiry.

The Damoh Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) M.K. Jain filed a complaint against Cam, following which a case was registered under charges of forgery, cheating, and impersonation. The police are currently investigating how Cam was able to operate in medical facilities without valid credentials and whether hospital authorities were aware of the truth.

Cam is now in police custody and will be interrogated further to uncover the extent of his activities and whether others were involved in enabling his impersonation. Authorities are also expected to scrutinize documents and verify the authenticity of the qualifications he had claimed in his CVs.
