The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has announced its intention to file a charge sheet soon against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in connection with the excise scam case.
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju conveyed this information to the Supreme Court during a hearing. The matter was being heard by a bench comprising Justices Sanjeev Khanna and Dipankar Dutta.
This development came to light as the court was addressing an application filed by Kejriwal challenging his potential arrest by the ED. The ED has been investigating allegations of corruption in the formulation and implementation of Delhi’s excise policy.
The case has significant political ramifications, with the AAP leadership vehemently denying any wrongdoing and claiming that the investigation is politically motivated.
During the proceedings, ASG Raju assured the bench that the charge sheet would be filed soon, further intensifying the legal and political scrutiny surrounding the case. The ED’s move to charge Kejriwal and AAP adds to the ongoing legal challenges faced by the party and its leaders.
The Supreme Court’s decision on Kejriwal’s application against arrest is eagerly awaited, as it could influence the political landscape of Delhi. The court has yet to issue a ruling on the matter.
