The Delhi government has announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives due to the heavy rainfall on June 28. The announcement came after multiple reports of fatalities caused by severe flooding in the city.
Delhi Minister Atishi stated that the excessive rainfall led to significant waterlogging, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of lives. She mentioned, “Several deaths have been reported due to the flooding on June 28. The families of those who have lost their lives will be provided with a compensation of ₹10 lakh each.”
The directive was issued to the Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) to identify the deceased with the help of local hospitals and Delhi Police. The government has instructed that the compensation be disbursed promptly to the affected families.
“We are working closely with hospitals and the police to ensure that the families receive the compensation without any delay,” Atishi added. The government has also urged residents to take necessary precautions during heavy rainfall and follow safety advisories issued by authorities.
This move by the Delhi government aims to provide some relief to the grieving families and support them in these challenging times. The authorities are also taking measures to prevent such incidents in the future by improving the city’s drainage system and emergency response mechanisms.
