The Delhi government has announced dry days from February 3 to 5, as well as on February 8, the day of election result declaration. This decision has been made in connection with the polling and counting process for the 70-member Delhi Assembly elections.
According to a notification issued by the Excise Commissioner under the Excise Rules-2010, liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs, and other establishments serving alcohol must cease all sales during this period. The dry day will begin at 6 PM on February 3 and continue until 6 PM on February 5, covering the 48-hour window before the elections conclude. A separate dry day has also been declared on February 8, the day votes will be counted.
The notification specifies that even establishments with licenses to store or serve liquor, including non-owned clubs, star hotels, and restaurants, will be prohibited from serving alcohol during these days.
This measure aims to maintain law and order and ensure smooth conduct of the elections. Residents and visitors in the city are advised to make arrangements accordingly and respect the regulations in place.
