Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has filed a petition for bail in the Rouse Avenue Court, set to be heard at 2 pm today. This move follows the Supreme Court’s refusal on Wednesday to consider his interim bail plea for medical examination. Kejriwal, currently out on interim bail, is required to surrender on June 2.
The Chief Minister was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam. After his arrest, Kejriwal was sent to Tihar Jail. On May 10, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail to participate in the Lok Sabha election campaign, with the condition to surrender by June 2.
The ED claims Kejriwal is the main conspirator in the scam and had previously issued nine summonses for his questioning, which he did not attend. Despite the allegations, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has dismissed them and confirmed that there will be no change in leadership. The party insists that Kejriwal will continue to run the government from jail if necessary.
Kejriwal’s petition for bail is crucial as it will determine his ability to remain out of jail and continue his political activities. The Rouse Avenue Court’s decision this afternoon is highly anticipated.
