The special court here has extended the interim bail of newly elected Lok Sabha member Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, till October 12 in the terror funding case. The court had previously granted him interim bail until October 2, allowing him to campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.
Engineer Rashid, who won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla, defeated former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in a surprising victory. The extension of his interim bail will enable him to fulfill his obligations as a newly elected representative during the ongoing assembly election campaign.
The court has directed Engineer Rashid to surrender on October 13, after the extended bail period ends. The case against Rashid relates to his alleged involvement in a terror funding matter, for which the investigation is ongoing. His political win against a high-profile opponent has kept him in the spotlight, and this legal development adds another layer of complexity to his political journey.
With the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, Rashid’s presence is crucial for his party, and the bail extension serves as a temporary relief for the newly elected MP to focus on political duties while awaiting further legal proceedings.
