On Tuesday, the Congress party unveiled its second list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, featuring prominent names including Vaibhav Gehlot, son of former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, and Nakulnath, son of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath. K.C. Venungopal, the Party Organization General Secretary, announced the names of the 43 candidates.
Vaibhav Gehlot has been nominated to contest from Rajasthan’s Jalore Lok Sabha constituency, while Nakulnath will represent the party from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara constituency. Additionally, Gaurav Gogoi, the deputy leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, is set to contest from Jorhat in Assam. Rahul Kaswan, who recently switched allegiance from BJP to Congress, has been fielded as a candidate from his current parliamentary constituency, Churu.
In this second list, 10 candidates are from the general category, while 33 candidates represent Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Minority Communities. The Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) held discussions on over 60 candidates for various states and one union territory, finalizing around 43 names. The party had earlier released its first list of 39 candidates, which included former party president Rahul Gandhi, who will once again contest from the Wayanad seat in Kerala. The first list comprised 15 candidates from the general category and 24 from scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, and minority communities.
