The Congress party has called a high-level meeting on Saturday to plan a series of protests across the country in response to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) charges against senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case. According to a circular issued by Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, the meeting will take place at 4 PM at Indira Gandhi Bhavan.
All party general secretaries, in-charges of states, and heads of various wings have been asked to attend the meeting. Sources say that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will chair the session, which will focus on planning demonstrations against what the party sees as politically motivated actions by the central government.
The Congress party has strongly criticized the ED for filing a chargesheet against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. The party claims that the move is a part of the ruling BJP’s strategy to target opposition leaders and distract from real issues facing the country.
Earlier this week, on Wednesday, Congress leaders and workers held demonstrations in front of ED offices across India, expressing their anger against the charges. These protests were seen as a strong show of solidarity within the party, with several leaders stating that the Gandhi family is being unfairly targeted for political reasons.
The upcoming meeting is expected to outline a more organized and extensive protest strategy, including sit-ins, marches, and public awareness campaigns. Congress leaders argue that the National Herald case has been repeatedly used by the central agencies to harass their leadership without any substantial evidence.
The party is preparing to escalate its protests in the coming days, aiming to rally public support and highlight what it describes as misuse of power by the central government.
