Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government for registering a case against Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa. He accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government of being insecure, incompetent, and trying to silence the opposition.

Ramesh explained that Bajwa had recently given an interview to a private news channel where he mentioned that around 50 hand grenades were smuggled into Punjab. His statement was based on media reports and came at a time when the state had witnessed 16 grenade blasts in the past six months.

Instead of taking this warning seriously, the Punjab government acted against Bajwa himself. Ramesh said, “Rather than investigating the concern raised, the Chief Minister accused Bajwa, who lost family members during the terrorism era, of having links with terrorists.” He further claimed that a team from the Counter Intelligence was sent to Bajwa’s residence and a case has been filed against him under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

Calling this move a form of political harassment, Ramesh said, “It’s clear that the Mann government and the corrupt AAP leadership are afraid. They are now using threats, intimidation, and false accusations to suppress voices of concern. But this won’t work.”

He added that governance in Punjab has completely collapsed and that the Indian National Congress will not remain silent. “We will continue to raise the people’s concerns with full strength,” Ramesh said.

This political clash comes amid growing tensions in the state, where security and law and order have become major issues. The Congress has pledged to stand by its leaders and keep fighting for justice and the safety of Punjab’s citizens.
