The Congress has called for a comprehensive discussion in Parliament on India-China relations, questioning the government’s approach to managing ties with its neighbor. The demand follows a recent statement by the government on the subject, which Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized as insufficient.

Ramesh emphasized the need for Parliament to address the full spectrum of India-China relations, including strategic and economic aspects. He highlighted concerns over India’s growing economic dependence on China, urging the government to clarify whether it has accepted a ‘new normal’ in bilateral relations since the tensions of April 2020.

The Congress leader pointed out that the party has carefully analyzed the statement made by the Minister of External Affairs in both Houses of Parliament, titled Recent Developments in India’s Relations with China. He stressed that such discussions are crucial for ensuring transparency and accountability in the government’s foreign policy decisions.

The demand reflects the opposition’s concerns about the state of India-China relations, particularly regarding border issues and economic policies. Congress has urged the government to allow a detailed debate on the matter, arguing that it is essential for safeguarding India’s strategic and economic interests.
