CM Bhagwant Mann has urgently requested a special package of ₹1,32,247 crore from the Finance Commission to boost Punjab’s development. Emphasizing the state’s historical contributions and sacrifices for the nation, Mann outlined several key areas where this funding is crucial.

The proposed package includes:

₹75,000 crore for general development: This substantial portion of the funds aims to enhance the overall infrastructure and economic stability of Punjab. It includes improvements in public services, transportation, and housing to boost the state’s development.

₹17,950 crore for agricultural diversification:

Given Punjab’s heavy reliance on agriculture, this fund aims to diversify crops, promote sustainable farming practices, and increase farmers’ incomes. This diversification is essential for long-term economic stability and environmental sustainability.

-₹5,025 crore to tackle stubble burning:

Stubble burning is a significant environmental issue causing air pollution and health problems. This fund is intended to provide farmers with alternatives to burning crop residue, such as subsidies for machinery and promoting eco-friendly practices.

₹8,846 crore for combating narco-terrorism and drugs:

Punjab has been grappling with serious drug abuse and trafficking issues. This allocation aims to strengthen law enforcement, provide rehabilitation for addicts, and implement preventative measures.

₹6,000 crore for revitalizing the industrial sector:

Revitalizing Punjab’s industrial sector is crucial for job creation and economic growth. This fund will support modernization, innovation, and the development of new industries.

₹9,426 crore for urban local bodies:

Urban areas in Punjab require significant investment in infrastructure, sanitation, and public services. This allocation aims to improve living conditions and promote sustainable urban development.

₹10,000 crore for rural local bodies:

To ensure balanced development, this fund will improve infrastructure, healthcare, and education in rural areas, reducing the urban-rural divide.

CM Mann stressed that Punjab’s contributions to the nation, including its role in the independence movement and as a major agricultural producer, warrant this special package. He asserted that these funds are vital for addressing the state’s pressing issues and ensuring its continued growth and prosperity.

By requesting this comprehensive package, CM Mann aims to secure the necessary resources to propel Punjab towards a brighter, more sustainable future. The proposal underscores the urgent need for financial support to enhance the state’s growth and address its critical challenges.
