The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four MBBS students from AIIMS Patna in connection with the NEET-UG question paper leak case. The arrested students are Chandan Singh, Rahul Anant, and Kumar Sanu, all third-year students, and Karan Jain, a second-year student. CBI officials stated that the students were apprehended from their hostel rooms in the presence of senior faculty members. Their rooms have been sealed as part of the investigation.
AIIMS Patna Director, GK Pal, confirmed the arrests, stating that the students were taken into custody with the cooperation of the institution’s senior officials, including the Dean and Hostel Warden. The director also mentioned that the CBI team had provided photographs and mobile numbers of the students prior to the arrest.
The arrests follow the detention of Pankaj Kumar, a civil engineering graduate from NIT Jamshedpur, accused of stealing the NEET-UG question paper from a National Testing Agency trunk in Hazaribagh. Raju Singh, another accomplice, was also arrested.
The CBI has registered six FIRs related to irregularities in the medical entrance exam, including cases in Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, concerning paper leaks and candidate fraud. The NEET-UG exam, conducted by NTA on May 5, saw over 2.3 million candidates participate across 4,750 centers in 571 cities.
