In a relentless battle against the aftermath of relentless rains, Budhe Nala wreaks havoc in the Tajpur Road vicinity, causing floods and infiltrating residential areas.

In the aftermath of persistent rain, Budhe Nala, despite the cessation of precipitation, continues to defy receding water levels. This defiance has resulted in the overflow of Budhe Nala, inundating Chandra Nagar, New Deep Nagar, Kundanpuri, and Shivpuri. The troubles faced by the residents have escalated, with the dam breaking twice within a span of 24 hours in the area adjacent to Tajpur Road.

Efforts by the Municipal Corporation, including the cleaning of old drains and paving the banks, have been underway for days to curb water overflow. However, the relentless force of Budhe Nala has led to the flooding of Tajpur Road. The surge of water has penetrated adjacent residential areas, slums, and industrial units, causing water infiltration woes.

In response to the crisis, MLA Bhola Grewal, Hardeep Mundian, Commissioner Shena Agarwal, and Additional Commissioner Aditya visited the site. They took stock of the rescue arrangements initiated by the Municipal Corporation late on Monday night and expedited the construction of the dam.

The Municipal Corporation, in a bid to prevent the overflow of the old canal, has undertaken a vigorous campaign, including bank paving and the installation of pumps to remove stagnant water in lower areas. Officers are on a 24-hour duty to monitor and respond promptly to any complaints.

Municipal Corporation officials attribute the Budhe Nala overflow to a significant influx of water from the back. The high water level in the Sutlej river compounds the challenge, hindering water evacuation. Issues have surfaced in the fencing project along the banks of Budha Nala, initially designed to prevent garbage accumulation. The lack of cleaning space and the fencing’s impact on the banks’ strength have emerged as significant flaws.

As the water overflows and infiltrates neighboring areas due to weakened banks, the Municipal Corporation is now focusing on reinforcing the banks by addressing the obstacles posed by the fencing. The collaborative efforts of officials and ongoing construction aim to alleviate the distress caused by the unyielding force of Budhe Nala, bringing hope to the affected residents in Tajpur Road and its surroundings.
