Tension flared in the border villages of Gagomahal, Toba, and Kallomahl as farmers vehemently opposed the BJP candidate from the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency during a roadshow today. Leaders and farmers from the United Kisan Morcha surrounded the caravan, raising slogans against the BJP.
Efforts by the police were required to ensure the safety of the BJP candidate and the accompanying leader from Ajnala constituency. They were safely escorted out of the encirclement as police dispersed the agitated crowd. The scene witnessed a frantic moment as BJP leaders took refuge by closing vehicle windows and folding their hands inside amid the farmers’ outrage.
Expressing their discontent, the District General Secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Union Sidhupur and leader of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee declared that the BJP candidate would be barred from entering the villages. Criticizing the support garnered by the BJP from some political leaders associated with farming families, they emphasized the growing resentment among farmers against certain political affiliations.
