Former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia appeared in Amritsar court today for a defamation case he filed against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. However, Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh did not attend the court session. The court has now set the next hearing date for August 17.
Speaking to reporters, Majithia mentioned that the court had summoned him to appear today. He consulted with his legal experts, who advised him to prioritize his appearance in the Amritsar court. Majithia expressed his belief that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was deliberately trying to harass him.
It’s notable that the SIT had summoned Majithia for questioning today. Earlier, when the SIT had issued summons, the Akali Dal described the matter as politically motivated. Last month, when the SIT issued a notice to Majithia, he approached the High Court, claiming that he was being unnecessarily harassed with repeated summonses. On July 8, the SIT withdrew the summons, only to issue new ones later. Consequently, Majithia was summoned to Patiala for questioning today.
Majithia’s ongoing legal battles and claims of harassment by the SIT have drawn significant attention, with the case being closely watched by political observers and the public alike.
