Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has refuted Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s statement about governments, including India’s, facing electoral defeat post-Covid-19. Vaishnav clarified that the claim is not factual and highlighted India’s successful democratic process in 2024.

In a post on social media platform ‘X,’ Vaishnav emphasized India’s status as the world’s largest democracy. He noted that the 2024 general elections witnessed active participation from over 64 crore voters. He praised the robust voter turnout as evidence of the people’s unwavering trust in the democratic process.

Vaishnav further pointed out that Indian citizens reaffirmed their support for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. This, he said, underscores the nation’s stability and progress even after the challenges posed by the pandemic.

The Minister’s response comes amid Zuckerberg’s controversial comments, which suggested governments globally faced setbacks in retaining power following the pandemic. Vaishnav’s remarks aim to assert that India remains a resilient democracy, guided by its people’s trust and active involvement.

This statement is part of an ongoing global debate about the political impacts of the pandemic, where India’s example stands out for its democratic vibrancy and stability.
