Schools, colleges, government offices, and banks across Punjab will remain closed on April 10, 2025, as the state government has announced a public holiday on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. The announcement adds to the list of holidays in April, a month already filled with several breaks for educational institutions.
Mahavir Jayanti is an important religious festival celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism. Keeping in view the religious significance of the day, the Punjab Government has included April 10 in its official list of holidays for 2025.
As a result, all government and private schools, colleges, and other institutions will remain closed on Thursday, April 10. Government departments and public sector banks will also observe the holiday. This provides a welcome mid-week break for students, employees, and officials.
Parents and students are advised to plan accordingly, as there will be no academic activities or official work on this day. The holiday is a time for people, especially followers of Jainism, to observe peace, prayer, and celebration in honor of Lord Mahavir’s teachings.
