Union Home Minister Amit Shah has condemned the recent comments made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an election rally in Jammu and Kashmir. Shah labeled Kharge’s remarks as “totally tasteless and insulting,” criticizing the tone and content of the speech.
The controversy erupted when Kharge, addressing a public gathering in Jasrota, Jammu on Sunday, made comments about the Prime Minister while discussing his health. During his speech, Kharge felt dizzy and had to take a break. Upon resuming, he remarked that he “will not die before Modi is removed from power.” This statement has drawn criticism from various quarters, including from Shah, who considered it highly inappropriate and uncalled for.
Amit Shah, taking to social media platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), expressed his disapproval of Kharge’s comments. He stated, “Yesterday, Congress president Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge ji has defeated himself, his leaders, and his party by making completely tasteless and insulting comments in his speech.” Shah went on to criticize Kharge for bringing Prime Minister Modi into a discussion about his personal health, terming it an unnecessary attack.
Shah added, “During the show of hostility, he unnecessarily dragged Prime Minister Modi into his personal health matters by saying that he would die only after removing Prime Minister Modi from power.” He emphasized that such remarks reflected the deep-seated animosity the Congress has towards Modi, suggesting that their constant focus on Modi is rooted in hatred and fear.
The incident has sparked a political row, with the BJP criticizing the Congress for a lack of respect in political discourse. Shah’s statements indicate that the BJP will not take such remarks lightly, particularly when they touch on personal matters in an insulting manner. The BJP has consistently maintained that political criticism is acceptable, but personal insults cross a line of decency.
