Congress leader Ajay Maken has expressed his opposition to any alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), even after the Delhi assembly elections. Speaking at a press conference held at the newly inaugurated Congress office on Kotla Road, Maken stated that his views were personal and not the party’s official stance.
When asked about the possibility of Congress supporting AAP after the elections, Maken said, “It is my personal opinion that there should be no alliance with AAP. I also believe Congress should not have supported AAP in 2013 or formed any alliance during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. But these are solely my personal views.”
Maken reiterated his earlier statement, referring to Arvind Kejriwal as “anti-national,” and said he stands by it. He argued that AAP’s growing influence in Delhi only benefits the BJP. According to him, Congress needs to focus on strengthening itself at the national level to effectively counter the BJP.
The remarks highlight internal differences within Congress over its relationship with AAP, particularly in light of past alliances and the current political climate in Delhi. Maken’s statements underline his belief that Congress must chart an independent path to regain its political foothold.
Party leaders have yet to officially respond to Maken’s comments.
