The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced that it will contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections without forming any alliances. AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar stated that the party is fully capable of taking on both the “overconfident” Congress and the “arrogant” BJP on its own. Kakkar accused the Congress of not treating its alliance partners seriously, especially in Haryana, which led to its defeat in the state due to overconfidence.
Kakkar further highlighted that despite Congress having zero seats in the Delhi Assembly for the past 10 years, AAP still gave Congress three seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections. However, Congress did not reciprocate the gesture by working with its allies in Haryana.
The failure to form an alliance between AAP and Congress before the elections was mainly due to disagreements over seat distribution. In the election results announced yesterday, AAP lost all the seats it contested in Haryana. The Congress also fell short of the majority mark, allowing the ruling BJP to secure a third consecutive term in the state.
AAP’s decision to contest alone in the upcoming Delhi elections reflects the growing tension between the two opposition parties and their inability to collaborate effectively during recent electoral battles.
