The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has secured a significant victory in Jammu and Kashmir by winning the Doda seat in the Jammu region. AAP’s candidate, Mehraj Malik, defeated his closest rival, Gajay Singh Rana of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), by a margin of 4,470 votes. Malik received a total of 22,944 votes, while Rana came in second with 18,174 votes. Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy of the National Conference secured third place with 12,975 votes.
This win marks a milestone for the Aam Aadmi Party, as it opens its account in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time. Party chief Arvind Kejriwal took to social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to express his joy and welcome the victory, congratulating Mehraj Malik and the party workers. Kejriwal’s message highlighted the growing influence of AAP beyond its traditional strongholds and acknowledged the party’s expanding reach in northern India.
This victory in the Doda constituency provides a significant boost to AAP’s presence in the region, reflecting the growing support for the party in various parts of the country.
