Delhi Capitals registered a strong 8-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants in the 40th match of IPL 2025. The match was played at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Delhi Capitals’ stand-in captain Akshar Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants, led by Rishabh Pant, managed to score 159 runs. Their batsmen struggled to build big partnerships, and Delhi’s bowlers kept things tight. However, a few useful contributions helped them reach a decent total.
In reply, Delhi Capitals didn’t have the best start as opener Karun Nair got out early in the fourth over. His wicket was taken by Aiden Markram. After that, KL Rahul and Abhishek Porel took control of the chase. They batted beautifully and formed a solid partnership. Abhishek Porel scored a quick half-century in just 32 balls. He was looking in great touch but lost his wicket in the 12th over.
Even after Porel’s dismissal, KL Rahul stayed strong at one end. He played a captain-like innings and completed his half-century in 40 balls. He remained unbeaten till the end. Akshar Patel came in after Porel and played an aggressive cameo to finish the game early.
Delhi Capitals chased down the target in the 18th over itself, showing their dominance. KL Rahul’s composed innings and Porel’s attacking knock made the chase look easy. With this win, Delhi Capitals gained important points in the IPL 2025 standings and boosted their confidence for upcoming matches. Lucknow, on the other hand, will need to work on their consistency as the tournament enters the crucial phase.
