A parliamentary committee has recommended a 54-day leave for Punjab MP Amritpal Singh, who has been in Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail under the National Security Act (NSA) since April 2023. The leave request was based on two applications he filed with the Lok Sabha Speaker on November 30 and December 16 last year.

The committee, led by BJP leader Biplab Deb, stated in its report that Amritpal Singh sought leave for 54 days across different periods: June 24 to July 2 (9 days), July 22 to August 9 (19 days), and November 25 to December 20 (26 days). The report was presented in the Lok Sabha and will also be submitted to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Meanwhile, a local court dismissed the plea of Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid, who sought custodial parole to attend the upcoming parliamentary session. Additional Sessions Judge Chandrajit Singh rejected the request and scheduled March 19 for the hearing of his bail plea. Rashid has been in custody under a case filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The court had previously asked the NIA to respond to his plea on March 3 before making its decision.
