Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking directions for the central and Punjab governments to allow him to attend the Budget Session of Parliament. In his petition, Singh argued that he must be present in Parliament as per the summons issued by the Lok Sabha Secretary-General. He claimed that his absence violates his constitutional rights.
Amritpal Singh, the chief of ‘Waris Punjab De,’ is currently lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail under the National Security Act (NSA). He alleged that he is being deliberately prevented from attending Parliament to declare the Khadoor Sahib seat vacant.
Singh pointed out that if an MP remains absent from Parliament for more than 60 days, their seat can be declared vacant. He argued that this would not only impact him but also the 19 lakh people of his constituency.
The MP has also requested permission to meet officials and ministers regarding the implementation of the MPLAD (Members of Parliament Local Area Development) scheme. This scheme allows MPs to recommend development projects based on local needs. Singh stated that he had formally requested the Lok Sabha Speaker on November 30 last year to allow him to attend the session.
His petition further mentioned that he had already been informed about 46 days of absence from Parliament. He had also submitted multiple
