The Rajya Sabha proceedings were briefly adjourned on Tuesday after opposition parties created an uproar following the presentation of the report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill by the Joint Committee of Parliament. BJP member Medha Vishram Kulkarni presented the report in the Upper House, leading to strong reactions from the opposition.

As the commotion grew, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar tried to read out the President’s message. However, opposition members continued their protest, ignoring his requests for order. Reacting to the chaos, Dhankhar urged the members to maintain decorum and said, “Do not disrespect the President of India.”

He also appealed to Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge to calm his fellow party members and ensure they returned to their seats. Despite his repeated requests, the ruckus did not subside, forcing Dhankhar to adjourn the House until 11:20 am.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill has been a topic of debate, with opposition leaders raising concerns about its provisions. While the government argues that the amendments are necessary for transparency and better management of Waqf properties, opposition parties claim that the changes could have far-reaching consequences.

With the Rajya Sabha session disrupted, all eyes are now on the next proceedings. The government is expected to push for the bill’s passage, but the opposition is likely to continue its resistance, setting the stage for further heated debates in Parliament.
