Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto praised the cultural and civilizational bonds between India and Indonesia during his visit as the chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations. Speaking at a dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Subianto shared that many Indonesians, including himself, have deep connections with India.

He revealed that his genetic sequencing and DNA test confirmed his Indian roots. “A very important part of our language comes from Sanskrit, and many Indonesians have Sanskrit names,” he said, emphasizing the historical ties between the two nations.

Subianto expressed his admiration for Indian music, saying it makes his feet move. He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and initiatives to uplift marginalized sections of society. “Your commitment to eradicating poverty and helping the most vulnerable is an inspiration,” Subianto told Modi.

He expressed a desire to learn from India’s example in governance and poverty alleviation programs. Subianto noted the influence of ancient Indian civilization on Indonesian culture, highlighting how it continues to shape their daily lives.

The Indonesian President’s remarks underlined the enduring bond between the two nations, rooted in shared history and culture.
