K. Sanjay Murthy, a 1989 batch IAS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). He officially took charge today, succeeding Girish Chandra Murmu, who completed his tenure on Wednesday.
Oath Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan
President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to K. Sanjay Murthy at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prominent leaders, including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, attended the event.
Murthy’s Career Background
Before this role, Murthy served as the Higher Education Secretary, contributing significantly to the education sector. He was nominated as CAG by the Central Government earlier this week.
CAG’s Role in Governance
As the Comptroller and Auditor General, K. Sanjay Murthy will oversee the auditing of government accounts, ensuring transparency and accountability in public finances. His experience as an IAS officer is expected to strengthen the institution’s functioning and governance standards.
