The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, has recommended the appointment of Justice D. Krishnakumar as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. The decision was taken during a meeting held today.

This move comes as the current Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, Justice Siddharth Mridul, is set to retire on November 21. The Collegium highlighted the need to fill the vacancy promptly to ensure the smooth functioning of the court.

Profile of Justice D. Krishnakumar

Justice D. Krishnakumar was appointed as a judge of the Madras High Court on April 7, 2016. With significant experience in handling civil, constitutional, and service-related cases, he has been recognized for his legal acumen. Justice Krishnakumar belongs to a backward class and has contributed significantly to the judiciary during his tenure.

He will serve as Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court until his retirement on May 21, 2025. The Collegium’s decision reflects its commitment to selecting experienced and qualified judges for key positions in the judiciary.

The appointment now awaits the final approval of the President of India.
