Haryana Congress MLA Vinesh Phogat criticized the alleged suppression of women who speak up, emphasizing that such silencing tactics have affected her personally. At a press conference with All India Mahila Congress Chief Alka Lamba, Phogat voiced support for Varanasi Youth Congress leader Roshan Jaiswal, who faces allegations of slapping a BJP supporter accused of issuing violent threats online.
During the conference, a video was shown where Jaiswal explained her actions, stating she slapped a man named Rajesh Kumar who had allegedly threatened her with sexual violence in September. Following this incident, a notice was reportedly issued to attach Jaiswal’s home, a move Phogat labeled as retaliatory.
Phogat expressed disappointment over the lack of response from BJP and Uttar Pradesh officials, remarking that she had little expectation from the current administration. She highlighted that women like Sakshi Malik and herself continue their struggles to be heard and respected. Stressing the importance of women’s rights and security, she said, “Women make up 50 percent of our population, and our safety is paramount.” Phogat pledged to continue fighting for women’s rights, calling on Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to address these pressing issues.
