In a recent development, the Delhi court has postponed the decision on the bail plea of Engineer Rashid, the Member of Parliament representing Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. Rashid, a former legislator, was recently elected as an MP, adding a layer of complexity to his case. Due to his new status, the court has indicated that it might require the case to be transferred to a special court for further proceedings.
The Additional Sessions Judge, Chandra Jeet Singh, stated that a review is needed to determine if the current court holds jurisdiction over Rashid’s case now that he is a Member of Parliament. This jurisdictional clarification is essential before the court can issue any ruling on his bail.
Meanwhile, Rashid Engineer has surrendered to Tihar Jail authorities after the expiration of his interim bail. He had previously been granted temporary bail, which allowed him some relief during the case’s progress. Now, as he returns to custody, all eyes are on the court’s upcoming jurisdictional decision, which will be a key factor in whether he secures bail or remains in detention.
