The division bench, consisting of Justice Sureshwar Thakur and Justice Sudeepti Sharma, emphasized the importance of this initiative for transparency and accountability. According to the court, properly numbered houses are crucial for establishing a clear electoral framework and ensuring the efficient delivery of public services.

The court also clarified that the responsibility for maintaining and updating these records will fall on the Gram Panchayat Secretary. This role is vital to ensuring that every house is accounted for, making it easier for authorities to manage resources and services in the villages.

The decision is expected to streamline governance in rural areas by improving record-keeping and contributing to a more organized and transparent system. The court’s ruling is a step towards more efficient public administration in Punjab’s villages.
