By-Elections Announced for Four Assembly Seats in Punjab

The Election Commission of India has announced by-elections for four Vidhan Sabha constituencies in Punjab: Dera Baba Nanak, Chabewal (SC), Giddarbaha, and Barnala. The voting will take place on November 13, and the results will be declared on November 23. With this announcement, the election code of conduct has come into effect in the districts of Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Barnala, lasting until November 25.

Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer, Sibin C, confirmed that candidates can file nomination papers between October 18 and 25, with scrutiny taking place on October 28. Nominations can be withdrawn by October 30. A total of 831 polling stations have been set up across the four constituencies, where nearly 6.96 lakh voters will cast their votes.

The Election Commission has appointed district officials for each constituency: Uma Shankar Gupta for Dera Baba Nanak, Komal Mittal for Chabewal, Rajesh Tripathi for Giddarbaha, and Poonamdeep Kaur for Barnala.

The by-elections were called as the previous MLAs, including Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair (Barnala), Dr. Raj Kumar Chabewal (Chabewal), Amarinder Singh Raja Waring (Giddarbaha), and Dr. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa (Dera Baba Nanak), vacated their seats after winning Lok Sabha elections.
