The hunger strike by junior doctors at RG Kar Hospital, protesting the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, has entered its tenth day, with all demands still unmet. The striking doctors are demanding a transparent investigation into the case and solutions to broader issues within the hospital.

As the strike continues, the health of two more junior doctors has deteriorated. Pulastha Acharya, a junior doctor from NRS Medical College, was admitted to the CCU late Sunday night due to severe stomach pain. A senior doctor confirmed that a medical board has been set up to oversee Pulastha’s treatment. Another junior doctor, Tanya Panja from Kolkata Medical College, also fell ill today, though she has not yet been hospitalized.

Despite the deteriorating health of the protesters, the junior doctors held a rally in Kolkata today to raise awareness about their demands. They insist on a fair and transparent investigation into the trainee doctor’s death, as well as improvements in the hospital’s working conditions.

Senior TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee condemned the ongoing protest, accusing the doctors of using the strike to stay in the headlines rather than working towards a resolution. However, the protesting doctors maintain that their demands are legitimate and necessary for justice and systemic reform.
