The ongoing strike at PGI Chandigarh, which has entered its fourth day, has left patients frustrated and without medical care. Patients are returning home without treatment, caught in the dispute between hospital administration and striking employees. Many expressed anger and confusion, asking why they should suffer for issues beyond their control.

PGI is a major healthcare facility serving people from seven surrounding states. However, the strike has severely affected patient care, with outpatient department (OPD) services nearly halted, and patient registrations stopped. Family members of those seeking treatment are left stranded, not knowing where else to go for medical help.

An elderly woman who brought her critically ill husband to PGI expressed her deep disappointment. She shared that they had come with the hope of receiving treatment, but are now forced to return home without any care, unsure of where to seek help next.

The strike involves around 1,600 contract workers demanding salary increases. What started as a strike by the attendants’ union has now been joined by employees of the sanitary and kitchen departments, affecting cleanliness and patient services across the hospital. This disruption has created chaos for patients in desperate need of medical attention.
