President Draupadi Murmu arrived in Algeria today, marking the first leg of her three-nation tour. This visit is historically significant as it is the first time an Indian President has visited Algeria.
The official handle of the President of India on ‘X’ shared, “President Draupadi Murmu has arrived in Algiers (Algeria) as part of the first leg of her three-nation tour.” Upon arrival, she was warmly received by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the airport, along with other senior members of the Algerian cabinet.
President Murmu’s visit is aimed at strengthening ties between India and Algeria, as well as expanding bilateral cooperation in various sectors. This diplomatic visit also includes stops in Mauritania and Malawi, where the President will engage in discussions to foster collaboration and mutual development with these nations.
The tour, which began on Sunday, signifies India’s increasing focus on expanding its diplomatic outreach in Africa. The meetings and talks are expected to cover key areas of mutual interest, such as trade, culture, and international cooperation.
The warm reception in Algeria sets a positive tone for the President’s journey, which holds great importance for India’s foreign relations.
